RETAINING WALL

ETAINING WALL

A Retaining Wall is a structure that is planned and built to withstand lateral soil pressure or to keep soil materials in place. Earth filling, liquid pressure, sand, and other granular materials behind the retaining wall structure could all contribute to lateral pressure.

Retaining wall structures come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and they’re utilized for a variety of purposes.

RETAINING WALL – TYPES

GRAVITY RETAINING WALL

Gravity Retaining walls are often large because they require a large amount of Gravity Load to counteract soil pressure.

Sliding, overturning, and bearing forces must all be considered while designing this type of retaining wall structure.

GABION RETAINING WALL

Gabion retaining walls are rectangular wire mesh boxes with several cells that are filled with rocks or other appropriate materials.

It’s used in the creation of Erosion-Control structures.

CRIB RETAINING WALL

They’re built out of interlocking individual boxes made of wood or Pre-Cast Concrete that fit together.

To produce a free-draining structure, the boxes are then filled with crushed stone or other coarse granular materials.

CANTILEVER RETAINING WALL

The most frequent type of retaining wall is the cantilever retaining wall.

A cantilever retaining wall can be built on-site or prefabricated (Precast) offsite.

The heel is the part of the base slab beneath the backfill material, and the toe is the other part.

PILLED RETAINING WALL

Piles are pushed to a depth that is sufficient to withstand the force attempting to push the wall over.

It is used in both temporary and permanent construction projects.

Piled walls have high stiffness retaining parts that can bear up to a lot of weight.
